Introduction to Components of ABB Excitation System


1、 AVR control cabinet


The AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) control cabinet is the heart of the excitation system, responsible for detecting the terminal voltage, current, and other related parameters of the generator, and adjusting the excitation current according to preset algorithms and control logic to maintain the stability of the generator terminal voltage. The AVR control cabinet contains various circuit boards and power modules that work together to ensure stable operation of the generator under various working conditions.


2、 Demagnetization switchgear


The demagnetization switchgear is used to quickly cut off the excitation current in the event of a fault in the generator or excitation system, in order to protect the generator and excitation system from damae. The demagnetization switch cabinet is equipped with high-performance demagnetization switches and related protection circuits, which can cut off the excitation current in a very short time and quickly release the magnetic field energy of the generator, thereby avoiding excessive impact on the generator and excitation system.


3、 Controllable silicon rectifier cabinet


The thyristor rectifier cabinet is a key component in the excitation system that converts alternating current into direct current. It adopts thyristor rectification technology, which can accurately adjust the magnitude and direction of the excitation current according to the instructions of the AVR control cabinet. The thyristor rectifier cabinet is equipped with a large number of thyristor components and heat sinks inside to ensure the stability and reliability of the rectification process.


4、 Excitation transformer incoming cabinet


The excitation transformer inlet cabinet is the part of the excitation system that is connected to the power grid. It is responsible for introducing the electrical energy from the power grid into the excitation system and providing the required power for the excitation system. The excitation transformer incoming cabinet is equipped with high-voltage switches, fuses, lightning arresters and other equipment to ensure the stable supply of power to the grid and the safe operation of the excitation system.


5、 CIN interface board


The CIN interface board is the communication interface between the AVR control cabinet and other components of the excitation system. It is responsible for receiving signals from other components and converting them into a format that can be recognized by the AVR control cabinet. At the same time, the CIN interface board is also responsible for transmitting instructions from the AVR control cabinet to other components to achieve overall coordination and control of the excitation system.


6、 COB main control board


The COB main control board is one of the core components of the AVR control cabinet. It is responsible for processing various signals from the generator and other equipment, and calculating the required excitation current value based on preset control algorithms and logic. The COB main control board is also responsible for monitoring the operating status of the excitation system and taking corresponding protective measures in case of faults.


7、 FIO interface board


The FIO interface board is the communication interface between the AVR control cabinet and external devices such as touch screens, upper computers, etc. It is responsible for receiving instructions and data from external devices and transmitting these data to other components inside the AVR control cabinet. At the same time, the FIO interface board is also responsible for transmitting the status information of the AVR control cabinet to external devices, so that users can understand the operation of the excitation system in real time.


8、 GDI driver interface board


The GDI driver interface board is responsible for controlling the output circuit of the excitation system. It precisely adjusts the magnitude and direction of the excitation current by driving the thyristor components in the thyristor rectifier cabinet according to the instructions of the COB main control board. The GDI driver interface board is also responsible for monitoring the operating status of the output circuit and taking corresponding protective measures in case of faults.
